Boxing with Christin maro

of Title Boxing

What led you to pursue a career in fitness?

I am a very self motivated person. I strongly believe that we all have something that drives us. I knew that a career in fitness is what motivated me and that I wanted to be the person that helps each client I meet reach his or her own personal fitness goals.

Tell the readers about your current position as a fitness instructor.

Currently I am lead Trainer and Asst. GM at Title Boxing Club Huntington. I teach both kickboxing and boxing classes, personal training, as well as Holistic Nutritional Health Coaching. My purpose as lead trainer includes developing and training other trainers and instructors to meet our standards.

How long have you been involved in boxing?

I started boxing when I was 19 years old. I enrolled in a martial arts school and was exposed to all of the benefits that martial arts and self-defense have to offer. Boxing was an additional way for me to use my skills in a way that fulfilled my passion and my purpose as a fitness trainer.

What range of fitness abilities do you see in your classes? Can anyone try boxing?

The fitness abilities range from novice to athlete. Our belief is that everyone who walks through our doors has unlimited potential. The key is for myself and my fellow instructors to help you find your inner athlete and take your training to a level that is comfortable and at the same time pushes you to challenge yourself each time you step into the ring.

What is the difference between kickboxing and the type of boxing that you teach?

Kickboxing is more martial arts based & boxing uses more arms and hands. With that said, many people do not realize that the arms hands and feet are just the vehicles that throw the punch or kick. It takes the entire body and multiple muscle groups to execute the movements. Both are high intensity routines that give you energy. Each power hour pushes you to burn up to 1000 calories! Each trainer’s individual style makes every class unique.

How is a class typically organized (in terms of warming up and then progressing to the cool down)? How long does a class last?

We have the best format in the industry. It's my job to ensure that the movements are scientifically proven. I design the power hour classes to begin with a 15 minute dynamic warm up. We implement a combination of Boxing and kickboxing movements, calisthenics, & plyometrics to warmup the entire body.

The next phase is 8 3-minute rounds with 1 minute of active rest in between. It's the duration of a true professional fight. We utilize authentic boxing and kickboxing movements to include foot work and defense. The active rest period is one minute between each round where we target lower strength while keeping your heart rate up.

The last 15 minutes we target the entire core--not just abs. Try our class and we promise to leave you in a puddle of sweat!

What muscle groups/parts of the body are targeted in boxing?

In terms of targeting different muscle groups/parts of the body, we have the best format in the industry in that our workouts are designed to work every muscle in your body, from your neck down to your toes, when done correctly. That's where me and my team are instrumental in that we teach authentic boxing & kickboxing skills. Using your entire body to throw a punch gives you the body of a "boxer" that people are drawn towards.

For boxing newcomers, what would you say is the number one key to success?

I believe the key to success begins with learning proper skill and movement. Not only are members getting a good workout, but they are also learning a new sport, which never gets easier. As the skill level progresses, so does the intensity of the workout which keeps them coming back for more. Many members start out throwing 500 punches and work their way up to 3000!! There is no other workout designed that engages you for the entire hour.

Why would you encourage a woman to start boxing?

As a woman I know that most of us search for a cardio workout that is both fast and effective. I want women to know that our power hour is the ultimate cardiovascular workout. In our case, many women are intimidated at first, but it is through our pre-training process that we are able to break down walls leaving them feeling less inhibited.

Why is exercise a priority in your life?

I believe exercise fuels my life. It is a healthy "escape" from anything that pulls our lives in different directions on a daily basis. Exercise has benefits that are all encompassing - benefits that heal your mind body and soul.

I look forward to making a difference in the lives of all women who are ready to embrace all that fitness has to offer.
